Clearinghouse of information on Children with Disabilities. We provide referrals to thousands of community organizations, public agencies, parenting support , and disability related research, best practices information and listings of local and statewide conferences and events. more
Family Support
Trained and experienced staff provide individual peer-parent support over the phone, in person or through home, hospital or clinic visits. We offer and facilitate six parent support groups and can help parents locate additional support services in the county. Staff are available to assist professionals find support services for their client families. more
Parent Training
We offer a variety of informational workshops on disability related topics for parents, professionals and community members. Parent workshops and classes are offered in English and Spanish at our Oakland office and in community settings countywide. We offer smaller more individualized information in clinics. Clinics are designed to assist families to access information more informally and provide individual consultation to address specific questions or concerns on topics including the Individualized Education Program (IEP), Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and Transition Services. The FRN also sponsors conferences for families including Congreso Familiar, Harambee a Village Gathering, STAR Autism conference. Family Resource Network Resource Counselors and Community Resource Parents are prepared to guide families through the process of accessing needed services from all parts of the service system including special education, early intervention, health, regional center and more! more
Services for Teens and Parents of Teens/Young Adults
The Family Resource Network offers a number of activities and resources specifically for teens and young adults ages 12-21 and their families. Our most popular activity is a monthly Teen Social Recreation Group provided in partnership with the City of Berkeley Department of Parks, Recreation & Waterfront. We also offer Resources and Connections to youth self-empowerment activities, transition information for youth and their parents. more
Advocacy & Action
The Family Resource Network partners with other parent leadership and disability advocacy organizations in California to improve systems and services for people with disabilities. Our joint efforts help to mobilize and support individual parents to speak out on issues that impact children with disabilities and their families.
